Health Insurance
Health Insurance When You're Your Own Boss
You built something on your own terms. Your health coverage should work the same way — straightforward, affordable, and backed by someone who actually answers the phone when you need them.
Coverage Built Around the Way You Work
When you're self-employed, there's no HR department to hand you a packet during open enrollment. You're the one figuring it out — and that can feel overwhelming if you don't know where to start. We've helped independent contractors, freelancers, sole proprietors, and small business owners across North Carolina find individual health plans that make sense for their situation. No guesswork, no pressure, no added cost to you.
Our job is to understand your income, your health needs, and your budget, then walk you through the options that actually fit. Whether you're newly self-employed or just tired of overpaying for a plan you don't fully understand, we're here to help you sort it out.

Our job is to help you find the right plan and stay supported throughout the year. We don't charge a fee for our services — we're compensated by the insurance carrier, not by you. That means you get a licensed agent in your corner for enrollment, plan questions, billing issues, and anything else that comes up, at no added cost.

No Fee. No Catch. That's How We Work.
We've been in this business since 1996, and our philosophy hasn't changed: we don't charge clients anything for our help. Not when you're shopping for a plan, not when you have a billing question six months later, not when you need to make a change at renewal. The carriers pay us — you get the guidance for free.
That's what we mean when we say we're selling service. We're not here to close a sale and move on. We're here to be the person you call when something comes up.

When is open enrollment for individual health insurance?
Open enrollment for marketplace plans typically runs from November 1 through January 15 in North Carolina. If you miss that window, you may still qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you recently lost other coverage, got married, had a child, or experienced another qualifying life event. Can I get health insurance outside of open enrollment?
Yes, in certain situations. If you've had a qualifying life event — like leaving a job, losing coverage through a spouse, or moving — you have a limited window to enroll outside the standard open enrollment period. We can help you determine whether you qualify and what your options look like.Do self-employed people qualify for subsidies on marketplace plans?
Possibly, yes. Eligibility is based on your estimated annual income. If your income falls within a certain range, you may qualify for a premium tax credit that reduces what you pay each month. We walk through this with every individual client so you know exactly where you stand before you choose a plan. What if I need coverage for my family, not just myself?
We can help with that too. Individual and family plans are available through the marketplace and off-marketplace, and we'll look at options for your whole household the same way we would for you alone — based on what you actually need, not what's easiest to sell.
