Phil Hux founded GW Hux & Co. Insurance in 1996, and he's been at the office in Roanoke Rapids ever since. He's also the president of the Roanoke Rapids High School Alumni Association — which tells you something about the way he thinks about this community. It's not a market. It's home.
That orientation shaped how the agency was built. Over the years, Phil brought in family members, and the staff that grew around him put down roots of their own. Several team members have been with the agency for more than a decade. The people who helped clients through the early years of the ACA are the same people answering the phones today.
When you call GW Hux, you reach a named person at a physical office on Roanoke Ave. That person knows the plans, knows the county, and knows what it means when something goes wrong with a claim in January. We've been navigating that for clients for over 30 years, and we're not going anywhere.
What "Selling Service" Actually Means
Most insurance transactions end at enrollment. Ours don't. When we say we're "selling service," we mean that the relationship — and the responsibility — continues long after you've picked a plan.
That looks like calling clients before open enrollment opens so no one misses a deadline. It looks like helping sort out a billing problem that has nothing to do with commission. It looks like picking up the phone in January when a claim gets denied and someone doesn't know what to do next.
There is never an added fee for any of this. It is simply what we do.

Yes. The agency has operated from Roanoke Rapids since Phil Hux founded it in 1996. Our office is at 1111 Roanoke Ave., and we serve clients primarily in Halifax, Northampton, and Warren counties, as well as employer groups across North Carolina and Southside Virginia.
Is there a fee for your services?
Never. There is no added fee to clients for enrollment, plan reviews, or ongoing support. That's been our policy since 1996.
